What Causes Abdominal Pain After Hysterectomy?

I had a Hysterectomy 5 weeks ago. I am still experiencing severe pain. Because my Fibroids were so large, my Hysterectomy was not Vaginal. I had to have an Incision from the Navel down. I feel like I am having more pain now than 2 weeks ago. God forbid if I sneeze or cough, the pain is excruciating. It s like I m not healing inside at all. And sometimes when I go to Urinate, there s a sharp pain on my lower right side, similar to the pain I used to have years ago when I needed to have my Appendix removed & ended up having an Appendectomy. Does having a Hysterectomy done in this manner (through the Abdomen) require a longer healing period other than 6-weeks?

Hello,

Yes, abdominal hysterectomy takes longer as its a major surgery. You need to check your temperature and get an ultrasound done for lower abdomen, a blood complete picture, urine routine examination and CRP levels. It is a due possibility that you may have developed a post operative infection, or some fluid collection in your pelvis post operative. Best to visit the same surgeon who operated on you.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
