What Causes Abdominal Cramps And Heavy Vaginal Bleeding While On Cerazette?

Hi i have just started taking the contraceptive pill cerazette desogestrel for 11 days now and so far iv had symptoms i felt were normal as my doctor had said might happen at start of taking it - nausea and light spotting - however last night i had extreme cramping not like my normal period, lower abdomen, and heavy bleeding all today so far. I am a bit worried this isnt normal... To have a solid period again so soon with such cramps. I had a miscarriage at 18weeks last year and i wonder if that increases my risk of ectopic pregnancy? On this pill? Im not sure what to do...if my symptoms are worth going in to doctor for. I live very rural and cant talk to a doctor over the phone about when normal side effects are not normal. Hope all makes sense, i would love some advice and hopefully reassurance! The pain has stopped now just heavy bleeding and feeling very bloated and light headed!

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Yes, you are right. Oral contraceptive pills actually increase chances of ectopic pregnancy. And your symptoms are more suggestive of hormonal imbalance caused by this contraceptive pill. So better to consult gynecologist and get done clinical examination and hormone levels. You may need to change hormone pill or contraceptive method (condom or IUD s). Once your hormones are normalize, you will be alright.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
