What Causes Abdominal Cramps After Having Intercourse In Women?
I am a 53 yr old woman. I have not been having sex for the last 2 years. But now dating someone. Directly after having an orgasm, I started having menstrual like cramping in my abdomen or ovary area. What does that mean/?? Is there something wrong with me?
Abdominal cramps after intercourse in women is commonly because orgasm can set off contractions in the uterine as well as abdominal muscles. Such cramps after intercourse are experienced mostly when sexual activity is not regular. Since you have started dating, your symptoms will likely reduce in course of time. When orgasm is intense muscles continue to contract intensely and hence cause temporary cramps after sex.
Gastritis and constipation may trigger the symptoms. Take laxatives and stay well hydrated for better bowel movement. You can take antacids and PPIs to avoid gastritis and discomfort later. Avoid doing intercourse after lunch or dinner. Do it before taking food for better pleasure. You can use vaginal lubricants.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
