What Causes Abdominal Bloating And Flatulence?

What could be causing a man in his middle 70 s to have frequent gas? Uses a cpat at night and is on medication for colesteral, blood sugar, and blood pressure, and potassium. He just had a colonoscopy a couple of months ago and everything was fine. The gas has an unpleasant odor .
