Hi Doc , my lips have started a horrible pattern of getting itchy at first, then swollen, rash (sometimes) then when that disappears they get extremely dry and turn BLACK! This starts just after or before my period? And it s cycle was unfamiliar with till last year July and hasn t stopped. Please, what is this and how do I get rid of it?

Hi..
Thanks for the query.

As per your complain swelling and itchy rash on the lips can be due to a number of causes like allergic reaction to any food or medication that you must be taking, any skin cosmetic, poison ivy, leather, latex etc..

Consult an Allergist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like allergic tests and lips swab culture can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..

As of now you can take anti allergics like Levocetrizine or benadryl to relieve itching and rashes..
Do cool compresses over the lips..
You can also apply Petroleum jelly over the lips..

Hope this helps.

Regards.
