I have a bony protrusion on the left side of my body below by ribs; it feels like an extra rib but the right side of my body doesn t have it. I ve only just noticed this, I m a female teen and didn t think it was unusual for one side of the rib cage to be larger than the other until my sister pointed it out with horror. What is this? Is it harmful? Can it be removed?

Well the symptoms you mention in query can occur due to certain reasons like diverticulitis , abdominal aortic aneurysm , hepatomegaly , splenomegaly or local infection . I would suggest you to consult gastroenterologist for proper examination . Doctor may order ultrasound along with physical examination to check tenderness an consistency.
