What Causes A Small, Painful Squishy Bump In The Area Of Extracted Wisdom Tooth?

Hi. I have a small squishy like bump where my wisdom tooth used to be. It was pulled 3 years ago on the lower left side. It doesn't really hurt unless I chew something on that side. It's actually aggravating more so painful. I gargle with peroxide to be on the safe side but what is it?

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain a bump on the site from where wisdom tooth was extracted can be due to infection in the region which can be due to any left out root piece into the socket which could have accidentally left during the extraction
Although it remains inactive for some time but can become activated and tries to erupt and can appear as a bump over gums..

It can also be due to any foreign body inclusion in the socket at the time of extraction..

Both these conditions can remain dormant or inactive for some time and then can get reactive at any point of time and can cause inflammation and pain..

I would suggest you to consult on dentist and get an x Ray done..
In case of any root piece or foreign body removal of same followed by antibiotics and painkillers can help..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards..

Hi Dear,
Welcome to HCM.
Understanding your concern.

Thanks for your query . The symptoms you mention in query arises due to sharp bony end under the gum . Sometimes after the extraction of tooth the socket could not be compressed properly due to which sharp ends remain at the site which cause problem or inflammation which exert pressure on them during bite.

I would suggest you to visit oral surgeon for proper diagnosis and to rule out any remaining tooth part or root chip that remained during the extraction, Doctor may open the site and file or grind the sharp end with filler and give stitches.

For now continue doing warm saline rinses , Take advil (if not allergic) or tylonole for pain and swelling , Apply orabase gel on ulcer before mean to prevent discomfort.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
