What Causes A Red Streak Of Line Stretching On Arms After A Cut?

My husband is a diabetic. 5 days ago while installing a cooker hood he cut his thumb on it. He's been dressing the wound himself but today he's noticed a red line from the wound going up his forearm. It's quite painful in the first part of it from the wound. Should he seek medical help and how urgent is it?

Hello and welcome to HCM,
The red steak on the thumb extending up to the forearm could be due to trauma caused by the hood.
Delayed wound healing is common in diabetic patients.
It is advisable to dress up the wound properly to avoid infection since diabetics are more prone to infections also.
You can take a painkiller for associated pain.

Thanks and take care
