What Causes A Rash On The Face While On Metformin?

I am a type two diabetic taking metformin 1000 mg tablets for a number of years. I recently developed a fascial rash and went to a local dermatologist who suggested that I ask my endocrinologist to possibly change my metformain to another drug believing that I may be having a reaction to my metformin. He suggested that it was a photosensivity to metformin. Is this a typical reaction of extended uase of metformin???? Thank you Don Dopke

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It could be due to allergic eruption to Metformin.
As a first line management you can take antihistamines like Pheneramine for symptomatic relief.
If symptoms persist you can consult a physician and get evaluated.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
