What Causes A Protrusion Above The Heel?

Area behind ankle and above heel of foot protruding more thank usual. No pain or problems with walking, only irritation from back of shoe rubbing against it. Almost looks like a bunion. That area on the right foot has always protruded more than the left, but it has increased in the last couple of months.

Hi,

The protrusion may be due to chronic friction on the area. It is not serious but it might cause discomfort if it grows. I would use some patches with salycilic acid to help reduce its size.

These you can get in the pharmacy and apply at night after a nice bath so the area is a bit softer than usual. You dry the area well and only after that you apply the patch only on the lump and not on the surrounding skin (the surrounding skin should not get damaged).

I hope this answers your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
