What Causes A Person To Talk To Himself When Alone?

Hello, I have a serious health question. This actually concerns my best friend. He talks to himself when he is alone. I mean when he is taking a shower, in his bedroom etc... However, he is able to control this behavior. By that I meant he doesn t do it when he is with his friends or family. He thinks he is fine but I am just wondering what could the cause of this be and what medical advices he needs.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Sometimes, talking to yourself is a part of managing the inside stress. It's great he can manage when being in company with other people, however, to me should discuss with psychiatrist in order to evaluate his mental status. He might not require any treatment, however, this consultation will put your mind at peace.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini, General & Family Physician
