What Causes A Pea Sized Lump At The Back Of The Throat And On The Tongue?

A couple of days ago I started having a feeling as though something was stuck in my throat. I used a flashlight to see, and I noticed that I have a pea sized purple bump on the back of my tongue. It is in the area where the circumvalate papillae are, so I m not sure if one of those is just irritated or if there is a problem. I did recently get a fairly bad cold and sinus infection, and the lump appeared shortly before those symptoms began. The lump is annoying because it touches the roof my mouth in the back and make me feel like something is stuck .

Hi Dear ,

As per you query you have pea sized lump on the throat and also lump at the back of the tongue . Well the symptoms you mention in query are due to sore throat and the lump on the back of the tongue is probably due to inflamed taste bud . Sometimes in infections like sinusitis , infection spread to upper respiratory track and oral cavity through post nasal drip . I would suggest you to do warm saline gargles and take steam twice a day . Avoid hot and spicy food , because papilla get inflammaed due to irritation caused by spicy , acidic and hot food . Consult ENT specialist for proper examination. Doctor may order certain test to confirm weather the infection is bacterial or viral . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics at least for 10 days along with vitamin C for quick recovery .

Hope your concern has been resolved.
