What Causes A Painful Lump On The Finger?

5 days ago my left hand began to swell on the back of the hand above the wrist. A painful lump is now located almost directly in line with the ring finer. There is quite a bit of swelling around the lump as well. This is not my primary hand. There is no redness, no fever, or itching. There is no break in the skin. Wondering what might be going on. I do not recall hitting it on anything.

this might be a ganglion
a ganglion is a benign outgrowth from the synovial membrane

it's usually movable swelling
nothing to worry
go for surgery if needed
