What Causes A Painful Lump Around A Dog Bite Wound?

Hello, approximately 2 weeks ago I was bit by a dog on back of my arm, right above the elbow. Most of the bruising has faded. It puncture wound is still healing. But under my skin, maybe into the muscle, there s a hard lump that is painful to the touch. It radiates about an inch and a half from the puncture and is about and inch wide, and at the bottom of the lump is another thin line of something that feels kind of swollen. What is this and will it go away? Thank you for your help.

Hi,

It may be a local collection of blood or pus or cellulitis. Until examination is done it is difficult to say what it is. Please wash the wound properly with hydrogen peroxide or iodine solution.

Use antibiotics orally twice a day for five days. If symptoms not improved please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
