What Causes A Lump In The Throat While Suffering From Viral Bronchitis?

I have acute viral bronchitis. Now it feels like I have a lump in the lowest part of my throat and my trachea is sore to the touch. It is hard to swallow but I am getting plenty of liquids down. Could this be irritation/ swelling from all the hard coughing?
