What Causes A Itchy Bruise Below The Eye?

I had what appeared to be a hive on the skin under my right eye a few weeks ago. Afterwards, the hive went away but the area is itchy/painful and now looks bruised. On top of that, the top of my right eyelid is itchy and also looks like it is bruised. And, in the past few day the underneath part of my other eye is beginning to look bruised, as well. I have been using a little baby shampoo since this started and a cold compress. What can it be?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The symptoms and signs mentioned are typical of an allergic response but it would be difficult to determine the source.

You may have been stung or bitten in this area or a cream/lotion applied to the area that the skin may have been sensitive to but this would be expected to have a more wide spread response.

In addition to the cold compress , you should use an oral anti histamine such as benadryl and consider a topical steroid cream such as hydrocortisone

I hope this helps
