What Causes A Hard, Discolored Lump Above The Collarbone With Cough And Sore Ribs?

Hi, I have a little hard dark purple lump (size of 2x baby peas put together) on my neck above my collarbone on my left side.... It does not hurt... I have been coughing inflammation, feeling tired all the time, sore ribs and upper back. Should I be worried? Have not been to go see the doctors....

Hello,

Most probably it will be a swollen lymph node. You can try a short course of antibiotics empirically.

If the lesion persists despite taking antibiotics, an ultrasound is required to make a diagnosis. A fine needle biopsy(FNAC) may be needed in case of diagnostic confusion.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
