What Causes A Growing Lump Under The Left Arm Pit?

My 12 year old son just showed me a lump under his left arm pit on the ribs about the size of an almond. He said it s getting bigger and more sore the last 2 days. Is this normal for boy going through puberty, lymph node ? He has no other signs of illness .

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The lump your son has noticed in the armpit area can be a usual inflammatory lump but it is best to have it checked with a doctor to make sure.

I would recommend you to send him to see the local doctor which after a careful examination will determine if there is need to just watch it over a couple of weeks or he needs to order some tests and possibly an ultrasound examination.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
