General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

A painful lump can be caused by swollen lymph node due to infection or it can be the inflammatory response of the local tissue to some trauma that might have gone unnoticed, poisonous insect bites sometimes are very painful. To find out what exactly has caused this, I would suggest you to see your doctor or a dermatologist to be specific and get it examined. Your doctor will ask you about your medical history.

If needed he will advise you to get a biopsy done of the tissue and see if there are pus formation and involvement of any microorganism or parasite which is causing the painful lump. Along with this some blood work must be done. He will prescribe you some pain relieving medicines and once the test results come to your doctor will suggest you appropriate medicines and treatment options.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
