What Causes A Feeling Of Coldness Inside My Ears?

My ear feels like it s cold on the inside, though it is not wet/moist. I almost feel like I have acid reflux of the ear. No ringing or blockage. There isn t a lot of pressure, but I did just get done taking the z-pac for what we think is a sinus infection. I am a 26 year old 135lb female.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted the history about a 26 year old male having feeling of cold inside ear though it is not moist or wet, took Z-pack, thought of sinus infection, there is no blockage or ringing. Feeling like acid reflux in ear means that there is inflammation at the back of nose in the area of naso-pharynx thereby causing Eustachian tube dysfunction. This can cause varied symptoms like the feelings you have, blockage alternate with opening, itching in ears, feeling of cold or warmth and so on.

This in itself can be secondary to sinusitis or local inflammation in the form of hypertrophy of mucosa or lymphoid tissues. Hence I would advise you the following:
- Consult an ENT Surgeon for clinical evaluation, examination, investigations like ENT Endoscopy, CT scan of para-nasal sinuses,
- Tests of blood and so on as is needed.
All these will give a proper diagnosis so that a proper management can help you to get a cure. Avoid allergens, pollution, smoke and anything that instigates or enhances your symptoms.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
