What Causes A Blister On A Wound After Applying Rubbing Alcohol?

Hi. I put a washcloth with 91% rubbing alcohol on a wound the other night and slept all night with it on. The next morning, the skin where the cloth laid was very red and like a big water blister. The skin sloughed off and there was lots of fluid. It has been red for days and weepy. There is no pain. I ve been putting zinc oxide on it and keeping it covered with gauze, but it s not showing any signs of improvement. Did I get a burn from the alcohol? What should I do to heal this wound?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

This looks like an infection. You should be started on antibiotics preferably a culture of wound fluid should be done and for all this you have to consult a physician.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
