Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Caused The Lack Of Balance And Numbness Around The Mouth Of My Mother?
my mom woke up with numbness around the mouth and in the fingertips of her right hand. She also was unsteady walking and had double vision. We took her to her neurologist and at the time we saw here the vision was normal, however she started slurring and lost her balance again. She sent us to the er and they did an mri and some bloodwork. Everything showed good. no sign of stroke and everything seemed great. What could be causing this?
She might be having transient ischemic attacks (TIAs) which are like mini-strokes where the symptoms clear up in a few hours. The routine MRI may not show anything, and further more specialized studies may need to be done, such as imaging studies of the carotid and brain blood vessels. I would also want to check her heart to be sure she is not having intermittent irregular heart beats that could affect blood flow to her brain. Talk to her regular doctor and neurologist about further testing. Hope this answers your query. If you have further questions, I would be happy to answer them.
