What Caused Blood In Vomit After Intake Of Alcohol?

I tried to throw up the other morning, after a night of heavy drinking. I couldn't throw up, but did spit about 4 times and it was fresh blood. that was two days ago, I've felt fine since, and have not had any more alcohol. I do have heart burn though.. what does this mean? and what should I do?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I want to know whether blood present in sputum or in saliva? If it is in sputum than bronchitis should be ruled out by chest x-ray and auscultation. If blood in saliva means if hematemesis presents check liver pathology by ultrasound abdomen. Sometimes gastritis induced by alcohol can lead to blood in saliva. Consult a gastroenterologist for examination.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Parth Goswami
