What Caused Blood Colored Substance In Stool Of An Infant?

My 10 week old has been having what appears to be bloody stools for 4 weeks. Stool sample was taken to lab and found negative for blood??? Stool was found to be high in fat. Bright red substance is definately there in nearly every bowel movement. What could this be?

Hi

Welcome to the HCM

I have gone through your question and understand your concern. If the poops are negative for blood or RBC, the red colour on diaper can be due to urate crystals. Urate crystals in urine also give an appearance of bright orange or red similar to blood in diapers. This is a normal finding and is many a times indicator of dehydration.

So, I would recommend you to give your baby regular feeds to keep him well hydrated. If the problem persists, get his urine and stools retested and send it for my reference. I would be glad to help you out in any further child health related questions.

Take care
