I took a colpermin tablet this morning and from about lunchtime today have had a horrible peppermint taste up the back of my nose and down my throat. I have only just starting taking these tablets, is this normal and is there anyway of getting rid of the taste?

Hello,

Colpermin is a well known anti-spasmodic medication use for the relief of Irritable Bowel Symptoms. Unfortunately in this case, the main ingredient is Peppermint Oil which does act as to alleviate the spasms in the intestine and reduce symptoms. The taste you are encountering is the peppermint oil, which is the active ingredient in this case, so it is normal when using this product.

Regarding alleviating the taste, I don't have any specific recommendations beyond the obvious of drinking additional fluids to wash away the residual peppermint oil, however simply stopping the medication will allow the taste to slowly resolve. I'm sorry I can't offer additional recommendations regarding that. Please feel free to ask any further question, I am more than happy to try to help.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
