What Cause Nerve Pain In The Upper Thigh Area?

My husband has had shingles about 5 years ago Has been dealing with brain cancer off and on for the past 12 years At times on high doses of chemo as well as radiation Because of this has never had the shot. He is 76 years old and have been told would not be as effective He does experience nerve pain in the upper thigh of his one leg which they tell us will not go away Would it be a good idea considering his health issues to look into this new shot?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

There is one bit of information that needs to be clarified- is the pain in the leg in the same area as the shingles? If so this is likely to be a post-herpetic neuralgia. A course of Carbamazepine may help him. Please meet your neurologist for a prescription for the same as he might already be on similar medicines in view of his brain tumor. As for the need of the shot, you will need to tell us the name of the shot before a specific information can be given about the shot.

I hope your husband has a speedy recovery.
