My neurologist prescribed Topamax about 1 month ago 25mg morning and night. He advised I increase to 2 pills (50 mg) morning and night after 1 week. I did not feel comfortable doubling the doseage after one week and remained on one pill am and pm. without any adverse side effects. I saw him last week and he wanted me to increase to 50 mg in the am and increase to 75 in the am the following week. I ask for his rationale. I was told that he felt it would help my mood and imbalance. My blood pressure has risen this past week and I am having headaches. I see this site advises not stopping this medication, but I would prefer to go back to one pill am and pm and go off in a few days. I have been ill for 8 months (since early Dec 2016) began with sinus infection, bronchitis, double ear infection, fluid in both middle ears, slept around the clock. Antibiotics which settled infections, 9 weeks physical therapy which helped balance issues as long as I walk very slowly and do not bend over. I have undergone 85 hospital tests, all which reflect excellent results! No TIA, no stroke, no aneurysm, no growth, psychological testing of 6 hours was 98%, I am 69 years old and active, own 2 businesses which I enjoy, am an LMSW and a Candy Maker. I am 5 11 , #300. But I loose my balance suddenly and unexpectedly and if I turn quickly or stand up my mind may be blank, no recall where or why I am there. Numbness in both hands most of the time, difficulty maintaining alertness to drive more than 30-45 minutes. Lack of ability to smell. Quality of life has diminished severely in last 8 months!! I do not wish to take Topamax at all.
