What Can Cause Itchy Red Spots On Arms, legs And Back?

My 10 year old neighbor girl came home from a friends two days ago after spending the night. She had a couple red dots that looked like mosquito bites on her abdomen and it got worse today by spreading to her arms and legs and on her back. She has a couple red dots on the back of her neck as well. The kids are saying she got flea bites from the girlfriend s dogs but I don t think that s it. Her rash itches. They little red bumps are not in clusters and they are slightly raised. Does it sound like an allergic reaction or a virus?

Dermatologist 's  Response
Thanks for the query.
The child might have developed urticaria.
It's an allergic reaction and requires treatment with antihistamines.
I treat such cases with syrup cetrizine 3 ml daily in night for a week and local application of a mild steroid cream like desonide to be applied daily in night for a week.
This should help her.
The medication is usually available over the counter.
Thank you.
