What Can Cause Blood During Self Catheterising?

Hi i self catheterise and at present i am taking flucloxacillin 500mg times daily, when i insert the catheter no urine comes out and there is blood in the tube which appears to be blocking it. Because I am unable to catheterise myself there is a constant stream of urine. Could this blood be due to the antibiotics i am on?

Hi I am doctor Fahim, and I will be helping you with your problem

First I want to know
- your age
- why you catheterize yourself and from catheter you mean Foley's catheter.
- Far how long you have been doing it
- Can you pass urine without catheter.

As you said there was blood in the tube instead of urine, so there might be urethral injury or there might be urethral stricture which bleed with instrumentation. If the injury is fresh, small caliber catheter may be tried with good local anesthesia if there the injury is old and if there is complete urinary obstruction, you may need urgent urological consultation who will pass supra-pubic catheter to relieve the obstruction then planning definite procedure for urethral repair.

I hope my answer will help you. Do rate it, if you like it.
Regards
