What Can Be Done For An Aggravated Nerve In The

What can be done for an aggravated nerve in the L3-5 area? Physical therapy didn't help. Two epidural shots haven't helped; and 4 weeks at a chiropractor hasn't helped either. Besides surgery, what can be done? Acupuncture? An inversion board? A medieval torture rack????
Our mattress is over 8 years old. I'm going to get a new, firm, mattress. Would there be an advantage to a "sleep number" bed over a coil spring mattress? My wife has got to get some type of relief. She can hardly get out of a chair to use a walker for trips to the bathroom.
