What Can I Do To Relieve Sharp Pain Around The Left Temple And Behind The Eyes?

I am on day 3 of what I thought was a migraine but this pain feels different than my regular migraines. I have sharp, shooting pains around my left temple and it shoots behind my eye, ear and back of my head, at times I feel the sharp pains on my jaw also. All on the left side. What can I do to relieve the pain? Please help.

Hi,

First of all, you should do some investigations such as: ESR and CBC to exclude Giant Cell Arteritis. Moreover, a doctor should examine the left side of your face for tenderness and a rope-like structure.

If the results of the investigations and physical examination were positive, you would start your treatment as soon as possible. Because this disease can affect the retinal artery resulting in blindness.

The treatment consists of oral steroid and oral anticoagulant (Warfarin and aspirin). You can do an CT brain and measure your blood pressure. If all investigations were negative, you should ask a dentist for help.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mustafa, Neurologist
