What Are Vomiting, Nausea, Dry Heaves And Lower Abdominal Pain Suggestive Of?
My 75 year old husband began vomiting yesterday around 7 or 8 PM. He has continued to feel nauseous and have dry heaves off and on since then. He has belching, severe pain in his lower abdomen and back, but has no diarrhea and has not had a bowel movement since yesterday which is unusual for him but I suppose could be explained by not eating. He has not eaten anything, but is drinking water. He tried apple juice but that made him throw up. I thought it was a stomach virus, but am puzzled that there is no diarrhea. He is afraid to take anything for pain because it might hurt his stomach more.
Hi Thanks for posting on HCM There are many medical conditions that may give such a presentation.Possible causes may include: Digestive viral, bacterial or parasitic infections, peptic ulcer disease, inflammatory bowel disease, bowel obstruction.... Only examination by the Doctor with some paraclinical findings may help to establish diagnosis.I will suggest you see the Doctor for examination, an abdominal ultrasound and a plane abdominal film.In the mean time, anti-emetics like vogalene and anti-spasmodic pain drugs like spasfon may help. Hospitalization with IV treatment will be the best. Hope this will help Wish you husband a speedy recovery
