As I noticed methadone is just used for helping people for addiction to Heroine,etc.. but he tells me that his doctor just gave him this medicine because he can not sleep well! Is it true? Hi & Welcome.

Methadone is an opioid drug primarily used in the detoxification & maintenance of patients who are dependent on other opioids such as Morphine or Heroin. It is also used in the treatment of patients with chronic or severe pain. It is not used to treat sleep disturbances as claimed by your husband.

For the de-addiction of Heroin or Morphine, it is given on long-term basis and the aim is to substitute methadone, a legal, oral opiate with a long half-life, for the illicit Morphine or Heroin, which is associated with a high risk of morbidity and mortality.
