Hello there,
I can understand your concern. Levothyroxine is a thyroid hormone which is given as replacement when our own thyroid gland produces less thyroid hormone. Having Low thyroid hormones may make you feel low and sad. The doses of levothyroxine are based on weight and TSH (Thyroid stimulating hormone) values. It would have helped me to know your age, gender and TSH levels to give a better opinion. If TSH levels are normal then levothyroxine dose is ok for you. If you are suffering from hypothyroidism (low thyroid hormones) then the only treatment is levothyroxine. No other pill will help that. Levothyroxine does not have side effects when used in the right dose. It is one of the safest medicines, very commonly used. But if you feel low about life and depressed I would suggest visiting a psychiatrist who can counsel you and find if there is a treatable cause. There are so many remedies for all diseases, please do not lose heart. We doctors try to suggest remedies based on what we can do best.
Try to exercise regularly as that is known to boost energy and morale. Join some activity at a community centre as you may meet lots of people there and probably share your experiences too.
Hope this helps.
Take care.
