Hi Nutcracker esophagus, or hypertensive peristalsis, is a disorder of the movement of the esophagus characterized by contractions in the smooth muscle of the esophagus in a normal sequence but at an excessive amplitude or duration. The main symptom of nutcracker esophagus is painful swallowing. You may have other symptoms as well, including: sudden and severe chest pain that can last for several minutes or occur on and off for hours,trouble swallowing. Your symptoms are less likely to be associated with nutcracker esophagus and may be related to neuropathic or muscular pain.Other associated symptoms if described ,will be useful in arriving at a diagnosis.
