What Are The Symptoms Of Nasal And Sinus Tumours?

Hi doc, my name is Nathifa I was born with a little hole on my nose that usually gives out hair and inflammation(puss) which gives a stink odor while passing its way out. It started to affect me in the year of 2012, my face was swollen,I had suvere pains which was unbarable. Unfortunatly I couldn t handle it anymore so after seeing a few doctors I then decided to do a surgery in the year 2013 whereby they found a Nose tumor which showed chronic inflammation. Three (3) months after the surgery was over it was infectecd again with a hard boil (apsus) within a week time two more came out, I went back at the doctor who did the surgery and he said that it was a keloid, so I then decided to vist a E.N.T doctor at a different hospital whereby he sent me to do a C.T scan examination, after I receive the results which state that there is a small non enhancing cystic lesion of fat attenuation 50 to 70 HU and size 6*6mm noted in the midline at the lower end of nasal bones. NB: Presently now it is swollen, with no pains just a bump. It has been two years now, and I m still living with it which I don t know the exact reason or cause of this situation.

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hello dear,
After going through your history, I believe you have some genuine concern and I will try to help you out of this situation.

The condition you are facing is called Dermoid ( Nasal dermoid) which is a congenital ( since birth)condition and flares up in due course. In simple term it is like a bag of tissue originating from skin buried deep to the skin and they give rise to new skin and hairs which normally remain silent, but painful when gets infected. If you can remember, there must be a black spot in it like we have pimple head. That is the mouth of it which discharges when infected.

Generally they do not extend deep, but very rarely ( I said very rarely) it may extend to the brain. You are fortunate that in your case it is limited to the nasal bone. The treatment of this situation is to remove the complete bag of tissue. if a tiny remnant remain inside the skin after the surgery, in some time it will enlarge again.

For patient like you, I advise antibiotics till the swelling subsides and then ask them for a complete clearance surgery. Complete clearance is the only option in your case.

I hope I could solve your query. Please do not hesitate to clarify more doubts for the same situation.

Thank you for the way you are in my life.
