What Are The Symptoms Of Hiv?

hi... i am 22 years old female... i used to hav sex with my boyfrnd 1 n half years bck. i had sex wid him for not more than 15 times... dis was like once evry 2 weeks or so. we had oral sex. and never used any protection. i hav not suffered from any disease since den. but since last week i got mouth ulcer, may b due to my bad eating habits. i had 6 bcosule capsules. it lasted for 6 days. now from 2 days it is much better. but all dese 2 days i am having a very slippery mouth wid a whitish substance. does it got to do ne thing wid HIV?

Hello dear,

A. First of all, HIV cannot be detected only on the basis of symptoms.
Presence of mouth ulcer can be due to bad eating habits, as suspected by you.
However, presence of slippery mouth with whitish substance can be attributed to oral candidiasis, a fungal infection caused due to poor oral hygiene or decrease in body immunity.
Management will involve a course of antifungal agents.
Kindly consult an ENT specialist & get a proper examination of your oral cavity done.

B. As you have a history of unprotected sexual intercourse, it will be better to relieve your concern regarding HIV infection.
You can undergo certain tests like p24 assay or PCR for HIV, which are almost 100 % sensitive.
The presence of a single virus in the body can be detected by PCR even during the window period.
So, if this test comes negative, you can be sure that you are safe.
