Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My father will be 90 in December. Other than a bad back from a fall a few years ago, he is in good health... EXCEPT: he has become self centered (everything is all about him and his life story- which is ok to a point- he goes beyond the point quite often). We have a tendency to believe he has the beginning stages of Dementia. He has become mean spirited towards his stepdaughter; he berates and argues with his doctors; he constantly puts others down. Dad will say he is confused and often mixes up his doctor appointments. There is a lot to this story, but these are our main concerns. Are these signs/symptoms of Dementia?
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. The symptoms which you are describing could be due to dementia. However, proper diagnosis can be only made based on clinical evaluation and examination. Also, certain imaging studies like CT or MRI scan may be necessary to confirm the diagnosis. Kindly consult Neurologist or Psychiatrist for further evaluation and appropriate management. Hope the information provided helps. Best wishes. Regards, Dr.Ashakiran.S.
