What Are The Symptoms Of Chest Infection?

Hello, I ve recently developed what I think is a chest infection out of nowhere. Had some ear ache, but woke up today coughing. When I cough, it s painful and I keep bringing up yellow mucus which tastes horrible. I m worried about the fact it tastes bad and why I get pain when I cough?

hello
welcome to hcm
well a chest infection usually means the infection of the lung tissue by a micro-organism like bacteria/virus/fungus..infection of the lung tissue may extend to involves other parts of the respiratory tract and upper region of gastrointestinal tract like bronchus/trachea/larynx/esophagus/pharynx/nose/ears because all these stuctures are in continuity with each other anatomically....signs and symptoms of chest infection usually includes ----

(1) persistent and continous cough
(2) infection of the lung tissue is usually associated with greenish or yellowish-brown expectoration and infection of other regions apart from the lung tissue is usually dry
(3) BACTERIAL infection typically produces a foul smelling phlegm
(4) difficuilty in breathing especially deep inspiration
(5) fresh bright red coloured or brownish clotted blood may be present in the phlegm
(6) fever
(7) wheezing i.e whisteling sound during breathing
(8) pain in chest
(9) pain during swallowing with itching in throat
(10) stuffy nose
(11) pain or feeling of pressure in the ears

from your symptoms it appers that you are suffering from bacterial infection of the lung tissues..if i were your treating doctor i would have advised you the following tests---

(1) xray of chest
(2) sputum culture and senstivity
(3) sputum microscopic examination

kindly visit a nearby physician who will get the above mentioned tests done and will perform a physical examination and will prescribe the appropriate treatment accordingly
hope you find the above information to be helpful
take care
