Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

The term brain damage is a very general term it doesn't say much about the severity of the damage and the involved areas. If the damage is not severe and doesn't affect areas involved with consciousness or language comprehension then there is no reason why she shouldn't react to your voice. Naturally without being able to examine her or to view brain imaging it is hard to judge by that description alone. You should discuss with the doctors whether she's had imaging, how severe the damage is, what areas are involved and what functions are performed by those areas.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
