Hello and welcome to Healthcare Magic. Thanks for your query.

Both Eptoin (Phenytoin) and Levipil (Levetiracetam) are anti-epileptic medication, i.e. they are given to control fits. Now, you have not given details as to why the doctors wanted to change Eptoin to Levipil. It could have been that the fits may not have been controlled by Eptoin, thus requiring a change of medication. Without any information about how well controlled her symptoms are, it is not possible to give any definitive advise on further treatment options.

So, I would suggest that you ask your doctor why the medication had to be changed and whether it would be sufficient if she is only on one medication. It is not true that these medication are 'not good for the brain', but it is also important that the appropriate medication in the right doses are given in order to control the symptoms.

Wish you all the best.

Hi ,
Both medication are anti convulsion drugs and have their own side effects.Any drug are give after looking its risk benefit ratio .It has a proper guideline to start continue taper and stop after seizure free period. So continue treatment under one neurologist and follow his advise and be in his regular followup as the treatment is long n follows according to patients condition n side effects later .
Therefore in my Opinion follow advise of current neurologist n review after three weeks . In case of doubt take second opinion .

Thanks n regards
