What Are The Side Effects Of Taking Tenex Tablet In A Child?

We are about to put my 8 yr old daughter on a drug for the first time for a diagnosis of an anxiety disorder. The psychiatrist is prescribing Tenex and warned us it might make our daughter sleepy. Is this a short-term effect that will go away as her body gets used to the medication? In what percentage of children this age does is this side effect seen? Thank you.

Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. Tenex is Guanfacine and the drug is used in ADD and also in anxiety symptoms in children. The drug cause increased sleepiness and is associated with significant sedation. The drug causes reduction of anxiety. The short term effects will go away in few days. To prevent day time sleepiness you can ask her psychiatrist and can give the drugs in evening hours.
