Commonly used in the treatment of type-2 diabetes, metformin is generally well tolerated by most of our patients, however it may cause abdominal cramps, diarrhea, vomiting, vitamin B12 deficiency and very rarely a serious condition called lactic acidosis. It is not known to cause memory impairment which is neither related to diabetes or to metformin.
