What Are The Side Effects Of Taking Fosamax?

I am 70 year old female. I am afraid to take Fosamax because of all the side effects. I have afib and have suffered a heart attack with stent placement 3 years ago. I have esphogual spasms which cause chest pain and I have cronic kidney desease.

Hi,

Fosamax is otherwise quite a safe drug however it may cause esophagitis and oesophagal dysmotility.

For this reason, we generally avoid giving oral bisphosphonates to any patient who has an oesophagal motility problem.

As you have oesophagal spasm so I personally think you better avoid taking this drug.

You can discuss this with your doctor who may either change the drug or may give you infection instead of it.
