What Are The Side-effects Of Taking Clarithromycin And Amoxicillin?
My child has been prescribed clarithromycin 7.5 mg per kg q12h x 7 days. She recently finished a course of amoxicillin for a strep infection that was diagnosed about a month ago. She has had about 3 strep infections in the past 2 years. She is 7 years old and is 21 kg. The clarithromycin is for an ear infection diagnosed today. i understand the reason for switching abx, but I have concerns about potential side effects from the new abx. She has one dose, and I m already freaking out about the potential side effects. I know it s not rational...I know the doctor would not Rd if they were not needed. I need reassurance that this is a safe drug.

You should know that all antibiotics have side effects but appear in different away in different people. So, you have to know that chlarytromicin has some side effects like mild diarrhea, dizziness or confusion, liver problems, abnormal taste; mild stomach pain; nausea; vomiting . Except of these side effects if your child take these two antibiotics for short time between (most possible effect) may have diarrhea because of impairment of normal bacterial flora of intestine. So, I think during this time you should associate antibiotic with probiotics (regulator of intestinal flora) to avoid occurrence of diarrhea. I hope my answer help you.
