What Are The Side Effects Of Stopping Lantus?

61 y/o woman diabetic was on metformin I got very sick and stayed in hospital for 2 months and started on lantus insulin 12 units, then transferred to nuring home for 8 months. I am going home soon and I will like to stop the lantus and go home on metformin. Is that possible?

Lantus is a long acting insulin that is used in the treatment of both type -1 and type -2 diabetes mellitus. On the other hand, Metformin is used only in the treatment of type -2 diabetes mellitus. If you want to start Metformin orally instead of using lantus insulin, then you should fulfill some criteria first. Criteria to turn back to oral hypoglycemic medications like Metformin could be listed as disappearance of diabetic symptoms, daily insulin need
