What Are The Side Effects Of Sedative Widrawel?

Hi, my father in law has been in ICU for over 3 weeks. They have been keeping him sediated because he had a blood clot in his lung, his kidneys have failed. Now the doctors have taken his off his sediatives so his brain will wake up. What does that mean?

Is he on the ventilator or behaviour is abnormal? Yes, above conditions it may need sedatives. Withdrawal of sedatives depending upon the patient condition. Please post complete diagnosis of the patient and present condition.
