Hi! Welcome to HCM! Brief answer: Prilosec can cause bones to become porous (Osteoporosis) on prolonged use
Detailed answer: As per the information given in your question, it seems your husband was suffering from Gastro esophageal reflux disease which was not controlled with Prilosec alone so he underwent a surgical procedure known as Nissen fundoplication. He also underwent some spine surgery. Prilosec on prolonged use can cause osteoporosis - a condition in which bones become porous, their mineral density decreases so they are vulnerable to trivial trauma resulting in fractures. To prevent the development of osteoporosis he must take the vitramin D, calcium supplements and Bisphosphonates which are given in the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis. You may consult a reheumatologist for further management. Regards!
