What Are The Side Effects Of Emergency Contraceptive Pills?

I took the plan b pill on Monday around one in the afternoon, (about 15 hours after having unprotected sex) before taking it I felt very nauseous. After taking the pill I felt even more nauseous, my stomach hurts, I m quiet tired, tend to be very sleepy, and I also feel like I m having flu symptoms. I m getting a bit nervous. Are these normal side affects of taking the pill?

Hello,
This is Dr. Papaqako answering your question.

The most common side effects associated with emergency contraception pills include: Nausea; Abdominal pain; Fatigue; Headache; Menstrual changes.
So pretty much the symptoms you are describing above, and yes, those are the normal side effects of the pill.

Some of the symptoms may be due to a viral infection, but you may see if those symptoms develop to fever, runny nose, sore throat, ect. In this case, you will have to treat only the symptoms as in a common cold.

I would recommend to take metoclopamide 10mg to reduce nausea. Drink plenty of fluids, and try to have some rest.

Hope this helps,
If any other question, let me know.
