What Are The Side Effects Of Emergency Contraceptive Pills?

Hi, I have been on the pill now for about a year. I had my normal period 20th August and started a new pill pack after. However, after day 3 (29th August) I missed 4 pills in a row (a lot of stress going on at home). I had sex on the first day I missed the pill (30th) and started bleeding heavily on 4th Sept. Its now the 9th, and for the last 3 days its been light bleeding, and the occasional cramps. I also had sex on 7th Sept. I think the missed pills has messed up my hormones and this is just a normal period, but I am worried that it might not be, and Im at risk of pregnancy? This wouldn t be ovulation with heavy bleeding? So confused!

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Once there is a significant break in taking the pills, bleeding will occur. In most women,if 3 or more days is missed then this bleeding is the result.

If the pills are not used consistently then there is a risk of pregnancy occurring. You may want to delay restarting the pill till you can determine whether you are pregnant.

Pregnancy tests can be done 11 to 14 days after conception.

I hope this helps
